Report on our stag season 2010
As our regulars know Willie left our stalking team early this year to become stalker/gamekeeper on Invermoriston estate – we wish him all the very best in this move. Richard has taken over Willie’s role in our operation and Angus has returned home to join the team. In effect, along with Paul this strengthens the team to four stalkers (inc myself!). We also get much appreciated help from David (better known as Foxy) – this allowed us considerable flexibility and gave us the confidence to take on the stags from Auchadunan estate at the head of Loch Fyne. This added pure open hill stalkin g to our usual forest stalking and many successful, fun days were enjoyed at Achudunan, with 16 stags brought to the larder from that estate. We also took a Sika stag from Auchadunan – 7 pointer but nothing special!
The weather was up to it’s usual tricks but on the whole was not too bad and allowed us to get to some of the more remote parts. The weights were down this year with our heaviest stag being 105kg (dealer’s weight) but we had some very nice trophies including three royals and one thirteen pointer. In round figures and including a few knobbers, we took approx ninety stags this season (from 1st Sept until 20th Oct). Although the rut was late starting this year all our guests went away having had the “Argyll experience” – steep hills, long walks and good hunting!! Also some very good trophies hanging on walls far & wide!!
Already the rut period for next year is under demand and I will be sorting the diary out, early next year – we are always pleased to hear from anyone who would be interested in stalking with us, whatever time of year.
Hind stalking - already underway with several beasts already brought to the larder but along way to go and plenty to go at!!
