With the winter of 2010/11 finally firmly behind us and the unusually early spring of 2011 already upon us, it gives us time to reflect on the final part of the hind and doe season and look forward to the coming summer and what that might hold for us.
I am sure that we will all remember the winter 2010/11 for the severe weather and all the difficulties that resulted from it! Despite this we concluded our winter cull more or less on target – we put 271 carcasses through the larder from Christmas to the end of March bringing our annual cull up to well over 700 beasts!
Peter, our apprentice butcher passed all of his exams and has fully qualified – well done Peter! He is a member of our local shinty team so we sponsored their new strip as a token of appreciation for his efforts and to support local sport. Peter is now going onto a gamekeeper’s course and will spend the summer months helping Anton with the pheasants and partridges at Ardtaraig. He will return to help Alistair in the larder, once we start stalking full time again in the autumn and the carcasses start coming in again.
Apart from occasional stalking, Paul and Angus are on fencing and rhododendron control work for the next few weeks but are on standby to help Alistair in the larder on an arising basis and with the event season coming up, there will be alot of burgers to make! We have purchased a new burger making machine to ensure reliability on that front.
Our first event is the Loch Fyne Food Fair on the 14th & 15th May, closely followed by Rugby 7s at Murrayfield at the end of May. The remainder of our schedule can be found on the website.

This year’s stag season is very well booked and the 2011/12 winter season is filling up with bookings so all 
looks positive on that front. To support this, we have taken on more stalking ground to give us more to go at.
Our on line shop has been fairly quiet over the past few weeks but now the bbq season has started, we would like to introduce our bbq packs which are on special offer until the end of the month – please have a look on the shop.
